Takaki Blog Questions

1. What was Frederick Douglass’ theory for how to break a slave?
-Slaves must be thoughtless and accept anythig their masters do because they are the higher power. They must take what is given to them and be convinced that its what they earned.
3. Why wasn’t Frederick Douglas aloud to read?
-She didnt want him to read and become educated because as he would grow older and discover his identity and develop his own opinions on slavery, he may rebel or challenge it.
5. What is the difference between how southern and northern blacks were treated?in the North blacks were technically "free" but were given menial jobs and were not allowed to vote. They also still suffred violent attacks by white poeple and treated poorly. In the South blacks made up 35% of the population and were the main labkr force fueling the economy on large cash crop plantstions.
